In order to meet the educational needs of the students at the higher secondary level in the Rangpur region, various educational institutions have been established in the region at various times. In continuation of this, Rangpur Government College started its journey on 25th July 1963. The greatness of many great and eminent persons can be found in the establishment of this college.

Apart from them, this college is established with the help of many other people. Many contributed to the establishment of the college by donating money and land. The journey of this college started in the zamindar house of Rangpur zamindar Rambabu. Thus, after the establishment of Carmichael College, Rangpur Government College was born on 25th July 1963 for higher education.

This “Rangpur Govt College” is established on 5.26 acres of land in Radhavallav area of Rangpur. The lush Monrom environment shaded by trees has multiplied the beauty of the college. The college is established in a noise free environment next to Rangpur Stadium. This small college is surrounded by natural surroundings with ponds and various plants. Originally the college was a zamindar’s house so its environment and lots of shade are dense. Part of the zamindar house of zamindar Ram Babu is still abandoned. There are some big old trees. Which surrounds the college with a beautiful pleasant atmosphere.

Rangpur Government College has 4 buildings. It has 35 rooms out of which 23 are classrooms and the rest are office rooms. There are residential arrangements for students. There is a college hostel with 100 seats for female students. And the hostel is currently abandoned. There is also a beautiful and tidy mosque for prayers. There is also a Shahid Minar. There is a large auditorium. There is a modern well equipped library. In the college, The library has a large collection of books. Also, the library has good facilities for reading in a quiet noise free environment. There are also labs for each subject. Where the practical tests of each subject are well explained to every student. There is a field for sports. This small college is very neat and tidy. The college also has a small and beautifully landscaped garden.

There are 2400 students studying in class XI and XII, 5600 students in degree (pass) class and 3500 students in honors class. There are also 4500 irregular students. During the establishment of Rangpur Government College, the principal was Prof. Emajuddin and the vice-principal was Prof. Phule Hossain. Presently, Mosharraf Hossain is the principal and Md. Humayon Kabir is the vice-principal. If you want to create good students in the field of education, you must first create good teachers. Rangpur Government College has higher secondary, degree (pass), honors and masters level of education.

 

There are 3 branches at higher secondary level. Each branch has 3 compulsory subjects including Bengali, English, Information and Communication Technology.

 

(1) Science Branch: Physical Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology

 

(2) Humanities: Economics, Urban Policy, Logic, History, History of Islam, Social Science and Psychology.

 

(3) Business Branch: Accountancy, Business Organization and Management, Business Production – Marketing and Management, Economics.

 

Honors has 14 subjects. The subjects are: Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Botany, Mathematics, Bengali, English, Political Science, History, Economics, History of Islam, Philosophy, Accounting, Management.

 

The degree (pass) course has 4 sections. The compulsory subjects of the branch are: History of the development of independent Bangladesh, Bengali national language, English.

Academic Activities of the Rangpur Government College.

 

At the time of establishment of Rangpur Government College, the undergraduate level was included in Rajshahi University. In 1965, BA classes were opened in the college. Rajshahi University allowed to open B.Sc in 1970. When Rangpur Government College was nationalized in 1984, the college was affiliated to the National University from 1993 onwards. After this, Honors Course was introduced in the college from 1997. Along with academic activities, this Rangpur Government College is also involved in various cooperative activities. This college also has a facility to issue identity cards. Financial assistance is available to poor and meritorious students. Apart from annual and selective exams, this Rangpur government college also has regular tutorial exams.

In 2007 Dinajpur got 2nd rank in higher secondary examination.

 

In 2005, participated in district level debate and won the honor.

 

Participated in language competition twice consecutively in 2006 and 2007 and won the position of winner across the country.

 

Winners were announced in the debate competition organized by TIB and Vishwa Sahitya Kendra.

 

Then in 2010, won many more awards including regional level winner and national level runner-up in language competition.

 

Then, in 2011, the college won the inter-district debate competition and won the divisional level language competition.
