For tomato cultivation, the soil has to be sandy or clay and in this soil need to add some fertilizer. A fertilizer with a balanced ratio of the three main components such as 10:10:10 or where the middle number (phosphorus) is greater than the first number (nitrogen), such as 2-3-1, should be chosen. Tomatoes do not require heavy feeders and usually fertilizers if the soil is too rich. Use compost fertilizer. Compost fertilizer help to grow fast.

 

Temperature and distance.

 

Tomatoes can be grown on a wide range of soil from sand to heavy clay. However, well-drained, sandy or red loamy soils rich in organic matter with a pH range of 6.0-7.0 are considered ideal. Tomatoes are a warm season crop. The best fruit color and quality is available at a temperature of 21 to 24-degree Celsius. However, green and red tomatoes are well known.

The best time to sow tomato seeds is from mid-March to early April. When the weather starts to get warmer in June and July, the plants should be big and tough so that there is enough blood to withstand the outdoor weather. When the right time comes, start sowing tomato seeds in containers in a high quality seed mix. Sow thinly in a line at a distance of 10-15 cm. The seeds should be sown to a depth of 2-3 cm and covered with a fine layer of soil and then light watering is done by water cans. The seedbed should be covered with dry straw or grass or sugarcane leaves to maintain the required temperature and humidity.

Common organic farming practices such as cover cropping, compost application, low tillage, and use of organic mulch all improve soil structure and reduce the fluctuations in plant water availability. Water requirements will vary with climate, soil type and tree size.

Generally speaking,the ideal spacing for a tomato plant is 24-36 inches (61-91 cm). Keeping the distance of the tomato plant closer than 24 inches (61 cm) will reduce the air circulation around the plant and may cause disease.

 

Watering system.

In the early part of the growing season, water the plants every morning. Your tomato plant may need to be watered twice a day as the temperature rises. Garden tomatoes usually require 1-2 inches of water per week. Potted tomatoes require more water than garden tomatoes. Fertilize the plants every 4 to 6 weeks throughout the growing season so that they can be fed continuously and be able to produce succulent tomatoes throughout the summer.

Mature time of the tomato.

Tomato take 20 to 30 days to mature from the time they first appear, so expect your tomato plants to start producing fruit 40 to 50 days after planting in the ground. Since it becomes eatable when it is ripped. it is edible and for a long time this fruit plant has been giving us yields which can be exported to other countries to meet our family needs and it enhances our immunity to various diseases. So we should all cultivate tomatoes even in rooftop gardens.

May-June and November-December

 

Nursery bed preparation for tomato.

 

Apply 10 kg FYM, 1 kg neem cake, 50 g VAM, 100 g rich enriched superphosphate and 10 g Fu radon per sq. m before sowing.

 

Seed rate of tomato.

Variety: 300-350 g / ha.

Hybrid: 100-150 g / ha.
